Iran: Obama Reaping What he has Sown

June 15th, 2015
Obama may be unfamiliar with the verse, “As you sow, so shall you reap,” since it originates in the Bible and not the Quran.

The verse tells us everything one does has repercussions. Therefore, the inability to escape the consequences of our actions should motivate us to take positive actions, even when difficult to do so, and thus avoid negative consequences.

In one word, we are talking about karma.

Obama’s actions vis-à-vis Iran have generated a lot of karma-and it has not been of the good kind. That should be most telling about his foreign policy towards Iran.

Obama has failed to heed the advice of seasoned experts who understand that which he clearly does not-the mullahs’ mindset. Obama takes the narcissistic approach that he alone can deal with the mullahs. It existed even before he was elected president, blinding him to the counsel of others.

In 2008, presidential candidate Obama sent a secret emissary-Ambassador William Miller-to Iran to inform the mullahs to await his election to negotiate a nuclear deal in a friendlier environment.

While Obama failed to understand the mullahs’ mindset, they quickly understood his. They knew exactly when Obama was born for, as the saying goes, “There’s one (a sucker) born every minute.”

Obama is not the only President to believe he knew better than seasoned experts on how to deal with an adversary.

President Jimmy Carter took the same narcissistic approach in dealing with the Soviet Union during the Cold War. His ineptness in understanding the Soviet mindset when he was-but not the experts trying to advise him-surprised by Moscow’s sudden 1979 Afghanistan invasion. The only protest Carter could muster was to lead a boycott of the 1980 Olympic games being held in Moscow.

Carter learned too late, as a single term president, he had misread Soviet intentions. Coupled with his inability to understand the Iranian mullahs mindset as well-resulting in the seizure of the U.S. Embassy in Tehran and taking its personnel hostage-Carter had only four years to exercise his ineptness.

Obama is now six years into an eight-year term in which there is no indication he has yet grasped the fact dealing with Iran’s mullahs is dealing with the devil.

One need only examine Obama’s foolish “no-holds-barred” focus on converting Iran from enemy to ally-an effort that has immensely benefitted Tehran while gravely endangered U.S. national security interests.

It is no wonder the nuclear talks have dragged on for so long. Obama has been releasing billions of dollars in restricted funds to the keep the mullahs engaged in the talks.

In 2013, as part of the interim agreement, Obama released $4.2 billion to Iran while easing some sanctions. To keep it further committed, he released another $2.8 billion in 2014. As of January 2014, Iran has been receiving $0.7 billion monthly, which means by the June 2015 deadline it will have pocketed another $12 billion. Obama also has not ruled out the possibility of giving Iran an additional $50 billion as a “signing bonus” should such a deal be penned prior to the June 30, 2015 deadline.

To further appease the mullahs, Obama removed the terrorist label from Iran and its puppet Lebanese terrorist proxy group Hezbollah in February’s National Intelligence threat assessment report to the Senate. The ludicrous insinuation for removal was a shared U.S./Iran common goal in seeking to defeat Sunni extremist groups such as ISIS and al-Qaeda.

The hypocrisy of Iran’s removal from the terrorist list is underscored by its actions both past and present.

There are billions of dollars in outstanding civil judgments against Iran and Hezbollah for their terrorist activities-direct and indirect-that have killed or wounded Americans, including the 1983 Marine barracks bombing in Beirut, the attack on the USS Cole, 9/11, etc.

Additionally, Iran is responsible for the most U.S. military casualties since the Vietnam war as it assisted anti-U.S. militants during the Iraq and Afghan wars.

And what has Iran done since receiving its new-found wealth from Obama and having its terrorist designation removed?

Re-establishing ties with the terrorist group Hamas, Tehran gave it tens of millions of dollars to help rebuild tunnels into Israel destroyed during the last conflict. This funding has also helped strengthen the “no-peace-with-Israel-at-any-price” group’s position in Gaza, which it controls, as well as in the West Bank, where it seeks to wrestle control from the “at-least-giving-the-appearance-of-wanting-peace-with-Israel” group Fatah.

In early April, terrorizing its own people, Iran executed 43 people within a three-day period.

Flush with new cash, Iran is committing assets to enhance an alternative uranium enrichment program using high-intensity carbon dioxide lasers using a process known as the Separation of Isotopes by Laser Excitation (SILEX).

April also saw Iran provide financial support, weapons and training for Houthi rebels seeking control in Yemen-a country Obama had earlier and prematurely identified as a success story of his counter-terrorism policies in Africa.

Ironically, after suggesting in February a shared U.S./Iran common goal existed in fighting Sunni extremists, Obama acknowledges Iran’s efforts in Yemen are creating “new openings” for those same Sunni groups.

Yet, despite all this, in Obama’s world, he still seeks a reluctant Iran as an ally.

It is doubtful Obama gleaned anything from the recent aborted effort by Iran’s convoy of supply ships to offload weapons in Yemen. The presence of a U.S. carrier group sent to intercept the convoy (although the U.S. Department of State reported the Navy’s mission was only to “protect commerce”) raised sufficient concern by the mullahs to wave the convoy off to avoid confrontation.

Sowing six years of weakness, Obama has reaped a defiant, rogue Iran determined to achieve its nuclear goal. It is now time to sow strength, forcing Tehran to sign a deal on terms denying it a path to realizing its nuclear weapon ambitions.
